Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of this academic year I am delighted by everything we have achieved. This as the first full year back at school following the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, and I am so impressed by the maturity and work ethic shown by our students. They are truly a credit to the academy and to our wider community in how they overcame various disruptions and periods of remote learning over the course of the year.
Everyone at LFA Amington is very grateful for the wonderful support we have received from the community during this academic year and we are all thrilled that the year has been so successful.
This year also saw our wonderful Performing Arts showcase of We Will Rock You, which was attended by more than 1,000 members of the community. This was a truly impressive spectacle and one which really highlighted the incredible talent we have here at Amington. I am very proud of everyone who took part in making this such a roaring success!
We likewise saw sporting success this term with the wonderful achievement of our Year 9 Boys football team, who claimed silverware in the Staffordshire County Cup. The team secured the trophy with a resounding 8-1 victory against St Thomas More Catholic Academy in the final of the competition, which was the heaviest win ever in the tournament final.
In addition, we recently welcomed our Tamworth community for our Amington Summer Fete which was another tremendous success. More than 1,500 people came along on the day, which was the first time we had hosted the Summer Fete since 2018. It was wonderful to see so many local businesses and charities showcasing their wares, and our own Landau Forte Academy Amington student orchestra with their own stellar performance to celebrate the day. We are now looking to establish a PTA committee to help with planning next year’s event, so please do contact the school office for more information if you are interested. We are similarly looking for some more parent governors to join our committed governing body. This is a really important role in which to challenge and support the school leadership team, and to
have real influence in the academy’s journey in the future. If you would be interested in finding out more about this role, please contact [email protected] for more details.
I am also incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and the focus and determination they have shown over the course of this year. They have worked incredibly hard despite the challenges thrown up by Covid-19 and I wish the best for them all. We recently celebrated their Amington
journey at the Year 11 Prom which was a truly wonderful event for our amazing students. The entire staff body and I are looking forward to results day in August so we can see these young people achieve the grades they truly deserve for all their efforts. Students will be able to collect their results between 10.00 – 12.00 from the academy sports hall on Thursday 25th August and further details of results collection arrangements will follow.
At on the other end of the age range, we are all looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students to Amington for four transition days before and after the Summer break. This is a valuable time to help these young students start to adjust to their new academy life and to smooth what can be an anxious period of transition.
Our return to the academy, following the Summer break, will be as follows:
Year 7 Wednesday 24th August
Year 7 Thursday 25th August
All Students Friday 26th August
In addition, students in Year 11 will benefit from timetabled lessons 15.00 – 16.00 every Monday and Wednesday. These compulsory lessons will enable our Year 11 students to achieve the best grades possible in the 2023 examinations.
Finally, I hope you will all join me in celebrating our truly wonderful Ofsted report! I am absolutely thrilled with the findings of the Ofsted inspectors who agreed that Amington is a good school, and I am delighted they declared that pupils here “are proud to attend Landau Forte Academy Amington”. While we all know there is still work to do, it is truly wonderful to have had the incredible efforts of everyone at the academy recognised in this manner.
I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing summer break and I look forward to welcoming you and your children back in the new academic year.
Yours sincerely,
Mr A Deen
Principal
